It Rained Today
Today it rained...and rained some more. It's been almost 6 months since I last saw rain and... the leak. Yeah, my truck is leaking. I remember it leaked the last time it rained, although I don't recall the puddle under my seat before being so big! I'm hoping the water will soak in soon---before the next thunderstorm. One week more, Lord willing, working at the tv station and then....on to California for a new adventure. Where I'm going though, there are no thunderstorms or tornadoes, just lots of rain, fog and earthquakes. I really should fix that leak---as soon as I figure out where that hole is. Maybe I'll wait until next winter when it starts snowing again.

Everybody Wants to Be Here
It's time for me to vent with the recent immigration protests going on. I'll try to keep this semi-short (always difficult)...but with all the Mexican flags waving in recent protests you'd think that maybe it was Mexico these protesters are in fact in love with and not the United States! The question we must ask then is this: why are these protesters in California and Texas and other places throughout the United States of America showing us Mexican pride? Here's for those who love your Latin country....go on back to it!Since you hate the United States so much as to break our law by coming here illegally, to wave another country's flag and speak another language native to your homeland... makes sense then to live in the country you love so much, right? Oh wait maybe it's not that it is loved so much.....Mexico isn't exactly a land that gives so much stuff and provides so much and has so much that one can easily forget to take care to be thankful to God for it all. Maybe it goes even deeper and it's about overtaking California and Texas and whatever else we'll give away to people who hate us so it can be abused and misused and....do I dare say, attacked.
Whew!....I feel better now.

Spring Has Sprung Snow in SD

Migratory Swath of Birds = Spring is almost here!

So I was driving to work the other day in the snow and I noticed something I can't recall seeing before. I could be wrong about that but nevertheless, when I first saw it, I was struck with awe just minutes before I crashed into the bank. Ok, I didn't crash but what I saw in the sky was several mammoth size swaths of migratory birds flying north toward Canada (probably their native homeland no doubt)! Well, most of em were flying north. Some of the birds in the mile or so wide swath seemed to be confused about what they were doing while others clearly were leading the pack. Wait, that would apply to wolves if they were wolves--as in, a pack of wolves but they were birds so I'll just use the word "swath" for now because it fits perfect in describing what I remember seeing. Anyhow, I am amazed that our Creator, God, made these birds (native to the north) to fly together and He created them to know it's time to go north because it's suppose to get warmer soon.
Watching these birds reminded me of people. Some lead and others follow, and still others aren't quite sure where they are or where they are going. I've felt that way before.
Do you know where you are going?
Now I would like to know what kind of birds these were but from what I could tell from my vantage-point far below, they were ducks--not geese as originally thought. I'm guessing Canadian ducks of some sort. My cousin suggested a godwit but we're sure those are mostly found close to Eureka, CA near the beach. However, as I continued driving I was able to get a closer look at some in a pond and some were clearly white birds with dark wing tips and some had solid, dark bodies. Whatever type of birds they were, I will remember two things. Since God made them and watches over them, how much more He is surely watching over you and me! And lastly, those were the largest swaths of migratory birds I can recall seeing in quite some time --had to be at least a half-mile in length or something like that.

Update: The migratory birds have been identified and were in fact a mixed bred flock of geese as identified in a still photograph soon to be seen here. Although I still think I saw ducks the other day.

Pie day
I am not one to get up at 6 am to enjoy it, let alone to bake. Getting up is enough trouble for me at anytime. However, today my girlfriend did just that bright and early and she truly enjoyed it. There was fresh snow on the ground and a crisp blue morning sky but that wasn't the reason she was excited. You see, today is March 14 which makes it "pie day". As a math teacher and being the brilliantly, creative-inventive person she is, she wanted to make a pie for her students to commorate such a day with her own sweet formula: apple pie 3.14. Now if there is any left when I get up....ok maybe next time.

Audio Bibles

I recently discovered something that has probably been around for quite sometime now but since it's new to me, it also seems more exciting. It's the audio Bible online which anyone can listen to free of charge. I've wanted to listen to an audio version of the Bible but they cost around $100 for a good one and one read by Max McLean. I found him to be quite enthusiastic when he reads scripture and I appreciate his desire to show us scripture is alive in words and tone. You can find a link to his audio Bible on my website or here.

Sometimes I imagine I'm flying...
If you know me, you'll understand this even better. I'm the type of person who enjoys keeping as low a profile as I can, and at all costs. I don't enjoy "calling attention" to myself in a public manner for whatever reason. I think all would agree I am not the one considered the "life of the party", although sometimes a party pooper... (but that’s another topic for another time). In general, it would be completely out of character for me to be talking loudly in a crowded restaurant, screaming loudly at a baseball game, or driving in a vehicle which wakes up the neighbors at 12 in the morning because some guy has a hole in his muffler!
Ok, so now you have a general picture of the scene. I drive around with an extremely awesomely sounding truck that makes random gunshot sounds and moans. The hole in the muffler isn't even that big of one but nevertheless, I want to offer apologies to any and all that may live along the route I drive each day. However, I must warn you...I'm getting quite comfortable with the sounds my truck makes. I imagine I'm flying....aaahhh...driving a single engine Cessna two-seater. I just need to find a pair of noise reduction headsets you've seen pilots wear.....then just maybe I can talk to air traffic control! Roger that...
