Only in Eureka, CA

Today the temperature is about 72 degrees. Ordinarily this would not be an unusual point for discussion but this is unusual for Eureka, CA. This brings me to my point. I remember living where warmth is common and normal. Did I say normal? Yep, normal. Warm weather, pleasant weather, anything where the sun is shining bright is normal. In fact, for this reason, it is not discussed. It is however, discussed in Eureka, CA. Actually, warmer weather only appears for a day or two or three out of the year. In places where it snows, it is cold and yet, people know it won't last. Summer is coming and so is warmth. Otherwise if it didn't, I imagine folks would move in droves, especially if it were cold all year around. I will be going to a place that is warmer in summer and cold in winter as it should be. A place where this isn't even discussed. Eureka, CA does not know about this. However, it does know about colder in summer, cold in winter, mild in fall and sometimes mild in both winter and summer as well. I look forward to days of warmth. Notice I did not say "heat". By the way, tonight is Bible study night. Yes, and weather will be discussed too. Only in Eureka, CA.

Have you ever noticed that some people consistantly talk about the weather?
I think it may be an obsession. They may start a conversation with you like everyone else would. "How have you been?" "Great, thats good to hear..." But then right away after, "..So howz the weather?" And sometimes they don't even let you answer the question, but go right into their opinion of the circumstances/weather around them.
Again, I think this is where the obsession takes over - they bring up the question for you but what they really maybe just want to do is share their own opinion of the weather.
But really is this so uncommon?
People talking about the weather is very common. People totally obsessed with talking about the weather is less common. But the thing that is not uncommon is the fact that people will bring up a topic of discussion in the form of a question for someone else. This may be because it's what's on their mind or heart and want to get it out in the open to communicate it.
When I first read your weblog/wog/blog about the weather in Eureka, a person came to mind that when we talk on the internet, after the hi's how are ya's, its then on to the weather...c'mon, on to something new already! But now as I've thought about and how this may relate to Lord, and us His children, I have a different attitude.
One may always have the weather on his or her mind, but may I have the Lord on my mind and heart all the time. Col 3:1&2 says, "Since then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things."
By the way...the weather here today is beautiful!
